Amani Centre for Street Children Vacancy, August 2023

Amani Centre for Street Children, a leading NGO headquartered in MoshiKilimanjaro with branches in Arusha and Singida, is on a mission to transform the lives of Tanzania’s street children and children rescued from severe abuse. We provide a sanctuary for children to heal, grow, and learn, striving to reunite them with their families whenever possible. Our Arusha Safe House extends specialized care to girls (and young boys) from the region who have faced severe abuse, including domestic slavery, child marriages, trafficking, and sexual abuse. We also recently started a pilot programme for young teenage girls who are engaged in sex work. One way our street educators meet homeless children is through their connections with shopkeepers, taxi drivers and older homeless people: “informants” who update them when a child has just arrived in the streets. The sooner we can identify and talk to a child who recently arrived in the streets, the greater the chance that child can be rescued from the physical and emotional suffering of life in the streets and returned to a normal childhood.
