The National Arts Council (BASATA) is a public organization created by Parliament Act no. 23 of 1984 as amended by Law no. 5 of the year 2019. History shows that the Law to re-create this Council was made by combining the Law of the National Arts Council of 1974 and the National Music Council (BAMUTA) of 1974. The Council was created to oversee the development of art in the country. The members who are appointed by the Minister responsible for Arts. The Chairman of the Council is appointed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania. The Chairman and members of the Council are appointed for a period of three years.Vision: To be a tool with a high level of ability to provide the best services nationally in the development of art. The main goal: Revive, promote and increase the development of the production of the best works of Art. Values: The basic values ​​of (BASATA) are to encourage and promote the authentic culture of Tanzanian art, to maintain excellence and high quality and to stimulate creativity and innovation in the arts.
